Opportunity Knocks!

Updated Call, new deadline: 30 SEPT 2017

We invite submissions of book chapter-manuscripts for consideration as a contribution to the edited volume “Concepts and their Applications,” to be published in 2018 as a volume of Synthese library,  Studies in Epistemology, Logic, Methodology, and Philosophy of Science, Springer, edited by Mauri Kaipainen, Antti Hautamäki, Peter Gärdenfors, and Frank Zenker.

All manuscripts undergo peer review. We look for theoretical and applied work concerning the theory of conceptual spaces (Gärdenfors, 2000), which plays a mediating role between the symbolic and the sub-symbolic levels of representation.

Conceptual spaces have already been successfully applied to a wider variety of research areas, as presented in:  Zenker, F.; Gärdenfors, P. (2015). Applications of Conceptual Spaces–The Case for Geometric Knowledge Representation (Synthese library, Studies in Epistemology, Logic, Methodology, and Philosophy of Science, Vol. 359). Dordrecht: Springer.

Topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Shared and negotiated concepts
  • Changes and identity of concepts, dynamics of conceptual spaces
  • Actionability of concepts, action and communication
  • Modelling reasoning in conceptual spaces
  • Categorization and laws
  • Conceptual spaces, symbol and embodied grounding
  • AI and robotics
  • Consciousness and creativity

Please submit your manuscript, complying with the following specifics, at https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=capp2017

  • 6000-8000 words (incl. footnotes, but not counting the reference section)
