Take your grand kids (or even kids) to university in Nanaimo this summer! We’re teaching a two-day philosophy ‘major’ on July 9 – 10 that walks you through areas like ethics and applied reasoning … and we’ll even do some whale philosophy!

If you ever wondered about the big questions in life, here’s your chance to work through some of them with two friendly, approachable instructors who each have a Ph.D. in philosophy.

  1. This should be fun! And a “learning experience” especially for the two PhDs.
In a recent New Yorker article, GO ASK ALICE, Anthony Lane writes, “A philosopher will ask how the identity of self can be preserved amid the ceaseless flux of experience, but a child . . . will ask more urgently, as Alice does, “Was I the same when I got up this morning? I almost think I can remember feeling a little different.” Children, viewed from one angle, are philosophy in motion.”

    • I love that line you cited (and how could you not!): “Children, viewed from one angle, are philosophy in motion.” I agree, it should be a very interesting learning experience for instructors and students alike!

BTW, the other instructor is Carolyn Swanson. She offered that I could help with GrandKids University. I am genuinely, truly looking forward to teaching (and learning from) our young philosophers and their philosopher grandparents.
